It was a dark afternoon in Brixton, South London, when I met with a friend for some ‘crate digging’ (searching for vinyls) in the infamous yet cosy Pure Vinyl store.
As we were scanning through various isles of records and catching up about life, music and everything in between, there came a moment when I had to pause the conversation and shazam (audio search) the track that was playing.
The production was very reminiscent of Marvin Gaye and had an element of 70s Soul that I hadn’t heard in a long while. Blending the old school with contemporary sounds is an art not to be overlooked and I was completely in my element hearing those sounds.
After shazaming a number of times, I finally asked the store owner for more information about the artist, she affirmed that he was an East Coast raised artist called Jalen Ndonga who had recently released his debut album ‘Come Around And Love Me’ – It was a no brainer to cop the vinyl immediately.
If you love music like I do, then I think you’ll enjoy this one!
